"Woodridge - Mrs. Alice C. Purvis died at her home on the Greenfield Road at 4:45 o'clock Sunday morning of liver trouble after a brief illness. Had she lived until Sept 12 she would have been seventy-eight years old. "
"Mrs. Purvis was born in Centerville, now Woodridge, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Medlar Davis. On Sept. 22 1874 she was united in marriage with Philomin Purvis, a veteran of the Civil War. Forty-seven years ago they went to the farm on the Greenfield Road where both ended their days. Mr. Purvis died July 25, 1921. The original farm consisted of 107 acres and was one of the best in the hill country back of Woodridge. Mr. Purvis gradually disposed of his farm to summer boarding enterprises until it was reduced to twenty-seven acres. Instead of maintaining the fine pasture and fields, new owners allowed the brush to grow."
"Mrs. Purvis is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William York of Woodridge, and Mrs. Jennie H. Caston, who lives on the farm; also one brother, John Davis of Middletown; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie L. Brown of White Mills Pa. and Mrs. Frances Anderson of Middletown, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. "
"Funeral services were held at the Woodridge Methodist church at ten o'clock Wednesday morning in charge of Rev. Robert Houghtaling. Interment was in the family plot in the cemetery at Fallsburg. Pall bearers were Jacob Caston, Earl Hook, William Martin and Frank York. "
