The Lanesboro Trip to the Homestead of RJ Lacey and his Family |

On may 10, 2002 Ancestors for RJ Lacey went on a trip to visit the area where the Laceys settled in the mid-1800's. The trip started with Harold (Bob) Van Aken picking up Barbara Ellmauer, Evelyn Boyles and meeting Tom and Rita Lacey in Great Bend PA. We visited the Historical society in Montrose PA where I had a search done for Lacey. We then went to Susquehanna and had lunch in the "Town Restaurant", which was one of the old stomping grounds of Tom when he was in his teens. Next we went to a shop that had some prints of the Starrucca bridge and a "History of Lanesboro" book which we got. Then we went to find Aunt Mates house in Lanesboro. After some difficulty locating the house we asked a neighbor of the most likely area and found that they lived in the "Benedict" house 30 years ago before moving into the house next door. The house was in bad shape when they moved in and has had quite extensive remodeling since then but was compared to a picture that Evelyn had and windows and decorative trim matched the photo. Then we drove out under the Starrucca bridge for a few pictures trying to duplicate the postcard that I have. Then we went to the South Windsor Cemetery where RJ Lacey is supposed to be buried. We found his stone with Clarinda Fairchild, his wife, and Silas Benedict and Mary Lacey (Aunt Mate). At that point Tom and Rita returned home and we decided to take a trip to Coventry where the Fairchilds lived and RJ and Clarinda gave birth to Clarissa in 1847. After searching the local Cemetery an old man mowing the grass suggested visiting the Town Clerks off where we found gold - she said there was an old cemetery where her grandparents were buried that had many Fairchilds. We found Clarinda's grandfather Billey and gGrandfather Joseph and several Other Fairchilds. | ||||||||
