The hotel shown in the photograph was at the time the establishment of Rudy
Jauernig, hence the name Rudy's, which later became the summer hotel of Bill and
Jean Tempel. Bill was the son of Conrad Tempel, who built Tempel Inn, and the
father of Gary Tempel. The buildings are still there.
The photograph, taken before the Shandelee Road was improved and
redesigned during the early fifties, shows the intersection of what was then
known as Lower Shandelee Road [more or less the current Shandelee Road] with the
Upper Shandelee Road, also known as the Back Shandelee Road. The driveway to the
Tempel Inn, which is not in the photograph, would be to the right of the image
and also not shown in the image.
