Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. The editors of the Livingston Manor Times, as mouthpiece for the Livingston Manor Taxpayers’ Association, had decided to wage a battle on beauty. The beauty of their argument was that they proclaim not to oppose BOCES’ vocational program, only the cosmetology vocational program. Of course, this editorial diatribe was designed mainly to influence the upcoming Manor school board “beauty contest” and filling the open seat vacated by retiring board member Bob Barnhart with one of their own “beauty queens.” However, beauty had been proven to be only skin deep with this local taxpayers association, for it what was inside them, like the then ongoing Edgewood Lake project debate had proven, was only ambiguous and mean spirited innuendoes.
